Our coaches are trained in emergency response procedures, including first aid and CPR. In the event of a medical emergency, we will take immediate action to ensure the safety and well-being of the camper, including contacting emergency services and notifying parents/guardians.
Minor crashes: Coaches will have a med pack to deal with minor injuries. If a bike is damaged and cannot be ridden, SAG will be called to pick up the bike and coordinate with parents for early pickup if needed.
911 emergencies: In the case of a true medical emergency, emergency services may be contacted in addition to notifying parents/guardians. Examples include: compound fractures, head injury and concussion, breathing issues, cardiac arrest, and heat illness.
Concussions: California legislature mandates that an athlete who is suspected of sustaining a concussion or head injury will be immediately removed from the activity for the remainder of the day. They will not be permitted to return to programs until they are evaluated by a licensed healthcare provider and receive written clearance to return. Written clearance must come specifically from a Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner and be provided to the Youth Programs Director.
According to the CDC Heads Up, observable symptoms of a concussion include:
- Can’t recall events prior to or after a hit or fall.
- Appears dazed or stunned.
- Forgets an instruction, is confused
- Moves clumsily.
- Answers questions slowly.
- Loses consciousness (even briefly).
- Shows mood, behavior, or personality changes.
