MTB Ride Camps for Kids

Camp Info & Policies

We’re so excited to ride with your child and create lasting summer memories on our bikes!

This page has everything you need to know for YCA Summer Ride Camp. For the skimmers:

  • Drop-off is 8:00 AM and pickup is 4:30-5:00 PM at Mount Olive Lutheran Church (320 Montrose Dr, Folsom, CA 95630)
  • Camp phone number (call or text): (279) 278-1875
  • Campers must wear camp t-shirt every day
  • Campers should arrive with sunscreen pre-applied
  • Campers should eat a hearty breakfast before arriving
  • Lunches and snacks are provided, please do not pack these unless prior arrangements have been made
  • Bike, helmet, lock, water, water bottle, lunch, snacks, and life vest provided
  • If your child does not know how to pedal a bike, we will teach them to ride first!

If your child cannot attend the first day of camp, please email us to let us know before Monday. No-shows on Monday may lose their spot in the camp.

  • Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedure

    Drop-off is at 8:00am daily and we may depart for rides as early as 8:30am. Please make every possible effort to drop your child off by this time.

    If you are running late after 8:30am, please call or text Clipped In for Life at (279) 278-1875. We may not be able to accommodate you if you arrive late.

    Please pick up your child promptly between 4:30-5:00 PM.

    Parents or an adult authorized for pickup will sign their child in and out each day.

  • What to Wear/Bring

    Please wear or carry the following items on your bike every day:

    • Summer Ride Camp t-shirt (to be distributed on first day)
    • Closed-toe, athletic shoes for riding
      Inappropriate footwear may cause your child to be unable to participate in activities. Please note, Crocs are not appropriate footwear.
    • No skirts or dresses as these can get caught in bike wheels
    • If you have one, a comfortable backpack to carry water, snacks, and sunscreen during rides.
    • Sunscreen
    • Any necessary medication (i.e. inhaler or epi pen)

    Please pack the following items in a separate bag/backpack, to be transported by our SAG vehicle:

    • Swimsuit
    • Towel

    Please label your child’s belongings with their first & last name!

  • What's Provided
    • Summer Ride Camp t-shirt (distributed on first day)
    • Bike, helmet, and lock
    • Multi-tool and spare tube
    • Water bottle & string backpack
    • Lunch and snacks
      Food allergies accommodated based on your original registration form.
    • Learn-to-ride instruction for kids not yet pedaling.
    • Age- and ability-appropriate riding routes and destinations with experienced coaches and leaders.
    • Admission to any paid activity or rental, such as the Folsom Aquatics Center pool, kayak & paddleboard rentals, Snooks, or museums.
    • Life vest for water activities.
    • Transportation of lunches & water-based activity supplies to off-site locations.
    • Extra water to refill bottles via SAG vehicle.

    Bikes will be stored at camp during the week. On your child’s last day of camp, their bike is officially theirs to take home!

  • Daily Activities Overview

    Here’s an overview of this week’s activities! All rides start and finish at Mt. Olive Church. Activities will be modified or moved indoors for excessive heat.

    • Monday: Welcome, riding assessments, lunch field trip ride to Castle Park, afternoon free play on camp track features at Mt. Olive
    • Tuesday: Field trip ride to Folsom History Museum, lunch in Historic Folsom Amphitheater, paddleboarding at Black Miners Bar
    • Wednesday: Trail ride and field trip to Black Miners Bar for lunch, and a nature and history lesson with a California State Parks Interpreter
    • Thursday: Field trip ride to Powerhouse State Park, lunch, and then to Snooks Candies for a treat
    • Friday: Field trip ride to Folsom Zoo (2nd-5th grade) or play time at Folsom Bike Park (6th-8th grade), lunch at Lions Park, afternoon traffic safety, nutrition, and bike maintenance lessons

    We know this is an exciting challenge for some kids, and have resources in place to make sure they can safely participate regardless of prior experience.

  • Water-Based Activities

    Water parks and pools with a lifeguard on duty: Campers must adhere to all facility rules. Camp staff shall supervise campers at all times.

    Open water with no lifeguard: Campers are required to wear a life vest at all times when entering water deeper than 2ft or with a current.

  • Bicycle Security

    When at destinations where activities will take the group away from the bicycle parking area, bicycles shall be locked or a designated coach shall be stay nearby to ensure bicycle security.

    A combination lock will be provided by the camp to be transported by the SAG vehicle.

  • SAG (Support And Gear) Transportation

    In the event of injury, mechanical problems, or illness that can not be remedied by the coaching team, a designated staff person shall be on-call to come to the location and transport the camper and/or coordinate with a parent for early pickup.

    A staff person shall be available to carry lunches, life vests, snacks, water, etc. to designated areas on the planned routes for the day.

  • Heat & Air Quality

    We will not ride when temperatures are above 105 degrees and/or the heat index is in the “Red/Major” risk category. Camp days will be abbreviated or altered to focus on indoor or water based activities in these conditions.

  • Sun Protection

    Campers should arrive with pre-applied sunscreen.

    Coaches will encourage reapplication every 2 hours where possible.

    Coaches/Counselors shall never assist with sunscreen application unless permission has been granted by the parent via a signed permission slip (available on the first day of camp) and another counselor is present.

  • Bathrooms

    Campers shall always be escorted to a bathroom. A counselor shall verify that bathroom is not occupied (if single occupancy) and monitor the door from the outside while camper is inside.

  • Crashes & Injuries

    Our coaches are trained in emergency response procedures, including first aid and CPR. In the event of a medical emergency, we will take immediate action to ensure the safety and well-being of the camper, including contacting emergency services and notifying parents/guardians.

    Minor crashes: Coaches will have a med pack to deal with minor injuries. If a bike is damaged and cannot be ridden, SAG will be called to pick up the bike and coordinate with parents for early pickup if needed.

    911 emergencies: In the case of a true medical emergency, emergency services may be contacted in addition to notifying parents/guardians. Examples include: compound fractures, head injury and concussion, breathing issues, cardiac arrest, and heat illness.

    Concussions:  California legislature mandates that an athlete who is suspected of sustaining a concussion or head injury will be immediately removed from the activity for the remainder of the day. They will not be permitted to return to programs until they are evaluated by a licensed healthcare provider and receive written clearance to return.  Written clearance must come specifically from a Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner and be provided to the Youth Programs Director.

    According to the CDC Heads Up, observable symptoms of a concussion include:

    • Can’t recall events prior to or after a hit or fall.
    • Appears dazed or stunned.
    • Forgets an instruction, is confused
    • Moves clumsily.
    • Answers questions slowly.
    • Loses consciousness (even briefly).
    • Shows mood, behavior, or personality changes.
