FAQs

Got a question? You’re not alone. Check out our FAQs for our most commonly sought-after program info. If what you need isn’t here, shoot us an email at community@clippedinforlife.org.

  • What ages can participate?

Camps are available for kids in 2nd-8th grade. Each camp week serves two or three grades at one time. Please visit the Schedule Page for details.

Register your child for the camp that corresponds to their grade for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. For example, if your child just finished 3rd grade and is entering 4th grade, you should register them for the 4th/5th grade camp.

Please note, we are not able to accommodate ages outside of the grade level offered for each week. This is important to ensure that groups can stick together on rides.

  • Does my child need their own bike and helmet?

Yes, your child needs to bring their own well-fitting mountain bike and helmet. At this time, we do not have loaner bikes.

  • Why does my child need to have a "mountain bike?"

Our routes are centered around adventure and getting out in nature! We’ll be utilizing appropriate dirt trails to maximize their experience, so a knobby tire mountain bike is necessary for participation.

2nd & 3rd graders need a dirt capable bike in good working order. It must have knobby tires but does not need to have suspension or disc brakes. Bikes with rim brakes are ok, and combination rim & coaster brake equipped bikes are ok.  Bikes only equipped with coaster brakes are not acceptable.

4th & 5th graders need to have a well-fitting mountain bike, and front or full suspension and disc brakes is highly recommended. Tubeless tires with sealant are also highly recommended.

6th-8th graders need to have a well-fitting mountain bike, and a modern bike with front or full suspension, dropper post and tubeless tires is highly recommended. Some of their rides will be on technical mountain bike trails with rocks, roots and exposure so a well equipped bike is essential.

Please email us at community@clippedinforlife.org with any questions regarding skill level or equipment requirements.

  • What skill level does my child need to be?

    2nd & 3rd Graders:
Riders should be comfortable riding with others and staying in a line, riding around their neighborhood and able to climb and descend moderate slopes. Experience at the Folsom Grom Race Series or Grip Academy Orange Grip or above would be sufficient experience (or on coach recommendation for Yellow Grip).

    4th & 5th Graders:
Riders should be comfortable climbing and descending both paved and dirt surfaces. They should have experience on dirt trails and the ability to navigate beginner mountain bike features like small rocks, roots, erosion ditches, and loose surfaces typically found on the cross country trails in our area. Positive, multi-season experience at the Folsom Grom Series would be suitable experience, and/or experience riding local or other NorCal trails and parks. Riders should be prepared for 1-2 hours of riding at a time with multiple stops.

    6th-8th Grade:
Riders should consider themselves mountain bikers, with multiple seasons of experience at the Folsom Grom Series and/or 678 Ride Club in group yellow or above. Experience riding technical cross country mountain bike trails is recommended and riders should be capable of a 20 mile ride at a casual pace, with multiple stops and breaks to refuel and enjoy surroundings. These riders should be able to carry their own tube, pump and basic repair tools similar to what’s expected in the 678 Ride Club.

Please email us at community@clippedinforlife.org with any questions regarding skill level or equipment requirements.

  • What does my child need to bring to camp?

Your child should come prepared to each camp day with:

    • A well fitted helmet and mountain bike.
All bikes must be in good working order. We will be equipped to make basic trailside repairs but we do not carry spare bikes or parts to give your child’s bike a tune-up during camp. Mountain bikes with at least front suspension and disc brakes are strongly recommended for 4th/5th and 678 camps.
    • Combination bike lock.
    • The ability to carry water & snacks, either on the bike or in a hydration pack.
    • A backpack with lunch, snacks, swimsuit & towel.
    • Life vest on the days we visit the lake.
    • A comfort level with being outdoors and active in our summer climate.
    • Recommended: Students should carry a correctly-sized spare tube. Our coaches will also be equipped with spares & tire levers, but this will ensure the right size tube is available for your child if they get a flat.
  • What's included in registration?

Your child’s registration is for one week of camp (Monday-Friday). Please visit the Registration & Pricing page for details.

    Registration includes:

    • Summer Ride Camp t-shirt
    • Age- and ability-appropriate riding routes and destinations with experienced coaches and leaders.
    • Admission to any paid activity or rental, such as the Folsom Aquatics Center pool, kayak & paddleboard rentals, or museums.
    • Transportation of lunches & water-based activity supplies (like water balloons) to off-site locations.
  • What is your refund policy?

Summer Camp participants may request a refund for any reason up to two weeks before the first day of your scheduled session. Refund requests within this time frame must be submitted via email to community@clippedinforlife.org and are subject to a $25 service fee. Refund requests will not be granted within two weeks of your scheduled session for any reason.

Your child’s skill level and equipment must fit our guidelines outlined on our FAQs page. Please review this information before registering your child. By registering for a Summer Ride Camp, you are agreeing that your child possesses the skill level and equipment necessary to participate. If you have questions about these guidelines, please email us at community@clippedinforlife.org.

Mountain biking is a unique sport that takes riders and their leaders on trails throughout the community, and gives them the chance to explore new places. Unlike many traditional sports where participants can sit to the side of a field if they do not wish to participate, that is not an option for Summer Ride Camp. If your student does not wish to ride, you will be called to come pick him/her up.

    Low Registration

Camps must have a minimum of 12 registered participants. If this minimum is not reached, that week of camp will be canceled and all participants will receive a full refund.

    Weather Cancelation

Summer Ride Camps are held outdoors and are therefore subject to cancellation due to weather. If we are unable to hold a camp day as planned, we will communicate to all registered participants as soon as possible. We are unable to offer refunds in the case of weather cancelation.

    Deferrals/Transfers

We do not offer rollovers or deferrals to a future year or to other Clipped In for Life events/programs. Entries cannot be transferred to another participant.
